Fans of The Pitt are anxiously waiting for the Max show to push more epi-sodes.

Fortunately, the series, which aired its season one finale April 10, was picked up for a second season back in February—so fans will not have to wait too long to see another shift at the Pittsburgh Trauma Hospital’s emergency room a.k.a. The Pitt.

Indeed, season two was confirmed less than a month into The Pitt’s first season, with the television streamer’s head of original programming Sarah Aubrey telling Variety in a statement that the audience response has been a “thrill,” adding, “We are excited to continue down this path with another season.”

If you’re still stuck in the waiting room when it comes to The Pitt, the new medical drama has taken social media by storm since its January 9 premiere. The show, which stars ER alum Noah Wyle as Dr. Michael “Robby” Robinavitch—as well as Patrick Ball as Dr. Frank Langdon, Tracy Ifeachor as Dr. Heather Collins and more—follows emergency medicine doctors throughout one shift in an ER.

In season one, audiences meet Dr. Robby as he heads to work on the anniversary of his mentor’s death, which occurred at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. Each episode follows an hour of the team’s 15-hour shift and includes flashbacks of his time in the ER during the pandemic, as well as following the personal struggles of his colleagues and their patients when a mass casualty event disrupts a typically chaotic day at their hospital.

For Wyle, who appeared on 13 of ER’s 15 seasons, he returned to the medical drama genre to emphasize the struggles healthcare workers are currently facing.

“These people sacrifice so much in the service of others that I find it absolutely infuriating that their expertise is being called into question," the actor told Variety in an interview published April 9. “I find it all infuriating that we are where we are right now. So I wanted to make a show that brings back into sharp focus what an objective medical fact is.”

Along the way, Wyle also made a show that fans can’t get enough of. Keep reading for everything to know about The Pitt’s second season…

When do new episodes of The Pitt come out?

The final episode of season one of The Pitt aired on Thursday, April 10. Although the series has been picked up for a new season—which is already in early production—an exact premiere date has not yet been released.

However, CEO of HBO and Max Content Casey Bloys confirmed to Vulture in an April 10 interview that the season will kick off sometime in January 2026. It is also likely that The Pitt will continue to air on Thursdays, as most shows on Max keep their original airing schedules from season to season.

When will Season two of The Pitt take place?

The next season of The Pitt will take place over Fourth of July weekend, showrunner and executive producer Scott Gemmill confirmed. The producer also teased a bit of the cases to come.

“There’s fireworks,” he told Vulture. “Somebody doesn’t do so well at a hot-dog-eating contest; somebody’s sunburned. You can see all the cases wandering in.”

After The Pitt’s recent season one finale, Gemmill explained that season two will pick up around nine or 10 months after what occurred, meaning audiences will see Dr. Langdon likely on his first day back following a stint in rehab.

“With it being Langdon’s first day back,” Gemmill explained to TVLine April 10, “we get to catch up as he catches up with all those people.”

What characters will be included in The Pitt season two?

While Dr. Robby is sure to clock back in, Wyle and other executive producers on The Pitt haven’t revealed which of the other major cast members—including Isa Briones, Fiona Dourif, Garren Howell, Taylor Dearden, Supriya Ganesh and Shabana Azeez—will be back for season two. However, they did tease that newcomers are to be expected.

“We’re calling all pros,” Wyle said of the second season at a Deadline conference earlier this month. “We want people who are good with props and who are used to working in a company, with an ensemble. We want creativity. We want passion. We don’t want ego coming to play. We have tremendous people showing up excited.”

At the end of season one, the audience is left with uncertainty particularly when it comes to Dr. Langdon (Ball), Robby’s mentee who was found to have been stealing drugs from the ER by intern Dr. Santos (Briones).

Ball expressed interest in returning to the show to Deadline earlier this month, and while he is also slated to lead a production of Hamlet in Los Angeles from May to July, Gemmill previously confirmed his character’s participation in season two.

Meanwhile, Katherine LaNasa’s Lead Nurse Dana Evans’ fate is also up in the air after she was assaulted by a patient. However, Wyle also confirmed that LaNasa will return, telling TVLine in an April 10 interview, “Obviously, I can’t get rid of Katherine.”
